Memorial Day, initially often known as Ornament Day, was first noticed on Might 30, 1868, to honor the Union troopers who died within the Civil Conflict. In 1971, Congress handed the Uniform Monday Vacation Act, which established Memorial Day as a federal vacation on the final Monday in Might.
